Privacy Policy
Version 1.1 · Effective: October 16, 2026 · Last updated: October 20, 2026
Cormorant Group Inc. ("Cormorant Group", "we", "us" or "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through cormorantgroup.ca, why we collect it, how we protect it, and the choices you have.
Cormorant Group Inc. operates this website and manages three locations in Winnipeg, Manitoba, each its own company: 508 Sherbrook Lodge Inc. (Sherbrook Lodge), Keewatin House Lodge (Winnipeg) Inc. (Keewatin House Lodge) and Burnell Place Inc. (Burnell Place). This policy applies to all four companies for information collected through this website. We handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
This policy covers our website only. Information you give us when you stay at one of our locations is covered by the forms you complete at check-in.
1. Information we collect
We collect only the information you choose to give us, plus basic technical information our website needs to work.
When you contact us through our Contact Us form, we collect:
-
First and last name
-
Email address
-
Subject and message, and anything you choose to include in them
Please don't include health information or other sensitive details in your message. If we need more information to help you, we will ask.
When you sign up for our news or promotional items, we collect only what you choose to give us, depending on what you sign up for:
-
News and updates by email: your name and email address
-
Promotional items by mail: your name and mailing address, and your birthday (month and day only, never the year) if you would like a birthday card. Birthday is optional
Promotional items by mail means birthday and holiday cards, flyers, brochures and offers from Cormorant Group and its locations.
Each option has its own checkbox, none is selected for you, and signing up is never required to stay with us or contact us. You can change your mind at any time.
When you visit our website, our website platform automatically collects basic information about your visit, such as:
-
Pages you view, how many pages you visit and how long you stay
-
How you found our site (for example, a search engine or social media)
-
Your browser and device type
-
Your general location (city or region, not your exact address)
We see this only as combined statistics in a monthly report (for example, total visits and most-viewed pages). We use it to understand how our website is used and to improve it. We do not use it to identify you. See Cookies below.
2. How we use your information
We use the information you send us only to:
-
Read and respond to your message or question
-
Direct your enquiry to the right location or staff member
-
Keep a record of our communication with you
We never sell, rent or trade your personal information. We use it for internal purposes only.
We will not add you to any mailing or marketing list because you contacted us. We send news or promotions only to people who have clearly opted in, and you can opt out at any time.
By sending us a message, you consent to us using your information for the purposes above. We will ask for your consent again before using it for any new purpose.
If you sign up for our news or promotional items, we use your information only to send what you chose: news emails, promotional items by mail, or both. To stop either one, use the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any page on this website, reply "Unsubscribe" to any of our emails (or use the unsubscribe link, if the email has one), or contact us (section 6). We will remove you within 10 business days. Every email we send includes our name, mailing address and a way to unsubscribe.
3. How we protect your information
-
We collect only what we need, and use it only for the reason you gave it to us.
-
Only the people who need your information to respond to you can see it: our website administrator and the management or location staff your enquiry concerns.
-
If you sign up for our news or promotional items, your details are kept in a separate, private list that only our marketing team can access. It is never mixed with Contact Us messages, and contacting us never adds you to it.
-
When we print labels for a mailing, we use a temporary copy of the list and delete it once the mailing is done.
-
We protect our accounts with secure passwords and limit who has access.
-
We choose service providers that are required to keep your information secure.
-
We delete information when we no longer need it (see section 4).
Service providers
We use trusted service providers to run our website and communications, including our website platform (hosting and forms), email provider, and AI-assisted tools that help our staff with tasks we direct. These providers may handle your information only on our behalf, only to complete tasks we direct, and may not use it for their own purposes.
Where your information is stored
Our email is stored in Canada. Some of our other service providers store information on secure servers located mainly in the United States and Europe (Ireland). When information is stored outside Canada, it is protected by our providers' security measures and may be subject to the laws of that country.
We take reasonable steps to protect your information. However, no method of sending or storing information online is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
4. How long we keep your information
We keep your message only as long as we need it to help you. Once your enquiry has been fully resolved, we securely delete your information within 10 business days, unless the law requires us to keep it longer or you have an open request about it with us.
If you signed up for news or promotional items, we keep your details until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you, then delete them within 10 business days. We keep only a short record of your unsubscribe request, as explained under "Unsubscribing (opting out)" in section 5.
5. Your rights and choices
You can, at any time:
-
Ask to see the personal information we hold about you
-
Ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete
-
Ask us to delete your information, where we are not required to keep it
-
Withdraw your consent to how we use your information. If you do, we will explain what it means (for example, we may not be able to respond to an open enquiry)
We will respond within 10 business days. If a request needs more time, we will let you know why and when to expect our answer. We may ask you to confirm your identity before sharing or changing any information.
Unsubscribing (opting out)
You can unsubscribe at any time using the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any page on our website, or by contacting us. You can stop news and updates by email, promotional items by mail, or all marketing. We complete every request within 10 business days, and usually much sooner.
When you unsubscribe, we delete your sign-up information. If you only stop part of what you signed up for, we remove just that part.
What we keep, and why. To prove that we honoured your request, as required under Canada’s anti-spam law (CASL), we keep a short record of:
-
your name and the email or mailing address you signed up with
-
what you opted out of and the date of your request
-
your original opt-in date and how you signed up
This record is kept only as proof of compliance and so you aren’t added back to our list by mistake. It is stored securely and can only be seen by our privacy contact. It is never used for marketing or any other purpose, and never shared, sold, rented or traded.

We do not use cookies to show you advertising. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but some parts of the site may not work as expected.
8. Links to other websites
Our website links to other sites, including our own Facebook and Instagram pages. Small changes (wording, contact details, corrections): we update the policy and the date.
-
Important changes to how we handle information we already collect: we post a notice on our website, and email people who have agreed to hear from us, at least 30 days before the change takes effect. The notice will explain what is changing and how to opt out.
-
New purposes: we will not use information you already gave us for a new purpose unless you agree to it first.
